For the absolute beginner

This book assumes you know nothing about sculpting. It is in larger print and clear diagrams for each step and technique. The basics are given along with a photograph of each tool, optional tools and supplies. The projects to make are in order of difficulty and rated with one to four stars. Several patterns range from a simple snake to a complex stegosaurus. Each page has a full scale pattern along with a picture of the finished sculpture followed by clear diagrams and instructions. This is great for kids and a classroom. There is a gallery of even harder ones pictured for those daring to create their own patterns and copy them on their own.

Great book for Teachers of all ages for low-relief paper sculpture

I loved this book I have used it in both elementary and high school art classes. It is simple enough to explain for all learning abilities and you can make copies to pass out on cheap copier paper before using more expensive card stock in case the students mess up. I have my students to incorporate the animals into backgrounds either painted or cutouts made from construction paper. The only complaint is that the animal section is limited and some are repeated in different variations according to skill level, once you master those you begin to realize that the book is rather short. I would like to see a second book with use suggestions and more animals or other subjects and backgrounds using the same techniques.

About the Author
Laurence R. Helfer is the Harry R. Chadwick, Sr Professor of Law at Duke University School of Law, where he co-directs the Center for International and Comparative Law and is a member of the faculty steering committee of the Duke Center on Human Rights. He has authored more than fifty publications and has lectured widely on his diverse research interests, which include interdisciplinary analysis of international law and institutions, human rights, and international intellectual property law and policy. He is the co-author of Human Rights, 2nd edition (2009), and the author of Intellectual Property Rights in Plant Varieties: International Legal Regimes and Policy Options for National Governments (2004).

Graeme W. Austin is a Professor of Law at the University of Arizona, holds a Professorial Fellowship at Melbourne University and is an Honorary Fellow at Victoria University of Wellington. He has lectured on intellectual property law in a variety of institutions and is an elected member of the American Law Institute. He has published widely on the topic of intellectual property, including in the Law Quarterly Review and the International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law.

John Dewey(1859 1952) was anAmerican philosopher, psychologistandeducational reformerwhose ideas have been influential in education and social reform. Dewey was an important early developer of the philosophy ofpragmatismand one of the founders offunctional psychology. He was a major representative ofprogressive educationandliberalism.In 1894 Dewey joined the newly foundedUniversity of Chicago(1894 1904) where he developed his belief in an empirically based theory of knowledge, becoming associated with the newly emerging Pragmatic philosophy. His time at the University of Chicago resulted in four essays collectively entitledThought and its Subject-Matter, which was published with collected works from his colleagues at Chicago under the collective titleStudies in Logical Theory(1903). During that time Dewey also initiated theUniversity of Chicago Laboratory Schools, where he was able to actualize the pedagogical beliefs that provided material for his first major work on education, The School and Social Progress(1899).In 1899, Dewey was elected president of theAmerican Psychological Association. From 1904 until his retirement in 1930 he was professor of philosophy at both Columbia Universityand Columbia University'sTeachers College.In 1905 he became president of theAmerican Philosophical Association. He was a longtime member of theAmerican Federation of Teachers.
