Much improved

I liked much of what I saw here. The focus on building was especially to my liking, as I always enjoy creation/growth themes. Looking forward to see him finish that fort and the impact it has. The fact that anyone in a party can see each other complete stats and abilities feels weird to me. it seems needlessly invasive and a convenient counter/loophole against those that wish to hide their abilities or stats. An enjoyable read.

All the terminology and analytical techniques are presented thoroughly, and are applied to a wide range of data from English. I particularly like the fact that examples from the BNC are brought in as additional evidence. Specific issues in the analysis of English are covered, such as the wide range of allomorphs, and it is good to see that the conditioning of these morphs are dealt with as well. The exercises cover the material in each chapter, and extend it to give the student insights into further study. Lawrence J. Gitman is an emeritus professor of finance at San Diego State University. He received his BA from Purdue University, MBA from the University of Dayton, and PhD from the University of Cincinnati. A prolific author, Dr. Gitman has published more than 50 articles appearing in FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, the FINANCIAL REVIEW, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL PLANNING, JOURNAL OF RISK AND INSURANCE, FINANCIAL SERVICES REVIEW, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL RESEARCH, FINANCIAL PRACTICE AND EDUCATION, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL EDUCATION, and other scholarly publications. He has authored and coauthored numerous best-selling textbooks on various finance and business topics as well as investing. An active member of numerous professional organizations, Dr. Gitman is past president of the Academy of Financial Services, the San Diego Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, the Midwest Finance Association, and the FMA National Honor Society. In addition, he is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). Takes Financial Theory from a Blackboard to the Real World

This was the textbook for a finance course I'm taking as part of a degree program. I found the book to be very well written and what I liked most was that it used concrete examples to explain the concepts and application of the formulas. The book is not intended to make someone an accountant, but is instead for a manager who needs to understand finances and the underlying theory and practical aspects as tools to make decisions. The authors explain each concept, give examples of the application of the concept, and then provide step-by-step instructions to perform the calculation using either a financial calculator or Microsoft Excel. This is a book I'll keep after class is finished, because I can see myself referring to it in the future.

A Toolbox of Information

I recently saw the author fly a Phantom 3 Professional over Fort San Lorenzo, a UNESCO Heritage site on the shores of Panama and also over a remote rainforest village in Panama's Darian Province. Watching drones in action inspired me to learn more about their applications, especially the types of comparative maps generated by drones.

This book teaches readers:
1) about aerial photogrammetry (which benefits from a new generation of software for cameras placed on drones),
2) how to prepare a variety of flight plans, and gear up in a light or low cost way,
3) how to fly, photograph, and process images and stitch them together into maps, and also,
4) there is a helpful comparison of the best drones available for mapping purposes.

It provides the information to create your own drone-based map mosaics for areas and times of your choosing. It is a practical field guide for drone-flying novices and will enhance the skills of experienced enthusiasts. Every page has helpful diagrams or insightful photos.

If you actively use aerial maps in work or play, or could benefit from having personalized aerial maps for knowledge or comparison reasons in your life's pursuit, check out the toolbox of information in this book.

Great book on drone mapping for all levels! Beautiful images and superb content.

As a doctor, I am very curious about the use of UAV technology in humanitarian response and first crisis. I have found this book to be a great introduction to the complex world of drone mapping, providing the basis to understand the potential of this growing industry. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who is willing to expand their knowledge.

Field guides for photogrammetry are rare, and it's great that Mr. Calvo (you can't use his first name in an Amazon review!) has taken the time to put this book together. It's a good overview of photogrammetry using fixed-wing and multirotor drones, but needs to be supplemented with additional research once one decides on an aerial platform to fly and software for processing. Think of the book as a high-level primer on the topic rather than an in-depth dive. It's extremely image heavy, and I often wanted more text to clarify and discuss points in greater detail, especially when technical terms are mentioned casually and without explanation. One other issue is that the organization and layout can be distracting; the content is good, but the layout can get in the way. Still, I recommend this book if you have been curious about photogrammetry and are looking for a way to get started.

This Has to be the Worst Textbook Ever Written

I cannot describe in enough words my disdain for this textbook. This has to be the worst textbook every written. Here's why:

1. The authors love parenthesis for some reason. I just counted seven uses of parenthesis in just two paragraphs. This really takes away from the focus of the paragraphs. Instead of using parenthesis, the authors should have used complete sentences.

2. For more information, see Chapter 2. For more information, Refer to file W4.4. For more information, see Chapter 2. For more information, refer to online file W5.9. You will see this in just about EVERY paragraph! You'll be bouncing between chapters as well as webpages to read stuff that the authors should have just put in the textbook darn textbook!

3. Hope your favorite colors are Black, Tan, and Blue. THOSE ARE THE ONLY COLORS THAT APPEAR IN THE BOOK! Even pictures of example websites they show are BLUE!!! Is this on purpose? I'm sure money was saved by printing with only three colors, but come on... for $180.00 I'd like to see actual colors.

4. The graphics in this book are just plain horrible. As a matter of fact, I don't think you can call them graphics. Imagine a block of text with arrows that point to other blocks of text. That's how the authors of this textbook try to graphically represent what they are saying.

5. Forget about those bolded words you took notes on and wrote the definitions for in the chapters, because you won't be tested on them. Instead, the test questions that come with this book pertain to ridiculous minute details of the chapters, which in most cases you won't even recall reading.

6. Forget about using the index. 1 out of every 5 items you need to find in the textbook will be listed in the index. And if it is, it will only have select page references, and not all page references.

I hope the 2012 version is better, but I highly doubt it. This textbook is the perfect example of HOW NOT TO WRITE A TEXTBOOK.

One of the worst school books I've ever read!

I have no idea who gave this 5 stars but I'm guessing it was the authors' friends. This book is very hard to read. For some reason the text is written in blue and gold which is really annoying. The authors also keep referring you to different places (including places like "online File W1.3"). I'm not sure where File W1.3 is and I'm definitely not going to give their site any hits by going there to look. There is no flow and the authors made this more of a scavenger hunt than a good read. This is one of my last classes for my masters and it is one of the worst books I've ever read. Not to mention it doesn't seem like the authors have a clue what they are talking about. Here is an excerpt from page 19, "According to... estimates that by 2011 as many as 80 percent of all internet users worldwide will have avatars, making animated online persons as common as e-mail..." WTF?! I think the author just finds random statements and incorporates them into the text. This book is horrible!

For my Knowledge Management e- Systems class, this book has invaluable insight. I was especially surprised to receive the instructors edition which has even more content that is useful to a knowledge learner. Great resource and Turban explains is straight talk.

About the Author

Steve Byers received his B.A. and M.A. from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO. His Master’s Thesis, entitled “A reconstruction of the skull of Gigantopithecus blacki”, formed the basis for YFX Studio's full reconstruction of Gigantopithecus on display at the San Diego Museum of Man. His first teaching job was at the University of Southern Colorado (now call Colorado State Universiy, Pueblo) where he taught Anthropology for two and a half years. From there, he worked as a social and psychological researcher until he decided that his true love was Anthropology. He enrolled at the University of New Mexico (UNM) in Albuquerque, NM, where he studied skeletal biology and bioarchaeology.

Since graduating in 1992, he has taught part-time at the various campuses of UNM as well as Santa Fe Community College. When given the opportunity to teach a forensic anthropology class at UNM in 1998, he realized that the field lacked a comprehensive textbook. Since no one appeared to be writing one, he decided to take on the project. The first edition of his textbook, published by Allyn and Bacon (since subsumed under Prentice Hall), appeared in 2002, and has been put into new editions three times. The book received a very favorable review in the Journal of Forensic Sciences, as well as several regional anthropology associations.

Item was in good condition, but content less that ideal

This book was assigned for a class, however, I feel the book covers forensics very superficially and would not be a good buy if you're considering forensics professionally. I still keep referring to Tim White's Osteology book for better supplementation.

Good Textbook overall for Introduction

Introduction to Forensic Anthropology was a good text book for learning the basics of Forensic Anthropology, it did a great job for the most part. Unlike the 3rd Edition it has been updated and the terms used in the textbook are more accurate. Some of the methods it describes as great methods in the field are not as described can be miss leading. This textbook is definitely for Forensic anthropology, if you are looking for OsteologyI recommend a different textbook.
